Tough Weekend

Tough Weekend

27 Feb 2019

Hi All,

A tough weekend for the HNCC Reynard Premiers as they lost both games including the T20 final on Sunday afternoon. Saturday brought a road trip to Onga Onga to face CHB in a 50 over match and we must have had a bit of jet lag as were inserted to bat on a dampish wicket but capitulated early to be reeling at 50 for 5 and we managed to crawl past the 100 mark to finally post 117 with only Pete Marffy (28) and Ben fair (24) troubling the scorers in the 20’s. CHB obviously found the conditions more to their liking as they raced to the target only losing 1 wicket in under 20 overs to end the short day in what was a disappointing display from us!

Sunday brought a new day and a new format as the T20 Final against Tech and there was some positive signs early as Tech padded up and at 30 for 2 we thought we were in the game but a couple of lucky chances early for Izzy Lange and he was away and really took the game away from us with a superb innings of 75 from only 39 balls as they posted a very challenging 185 from their 20 overs. We started well in reply and Graeme Tryon(17) and Brad Schmulian (50) were in good nick as we reached 43 without loss off only 6 overs but unfortunately they tightened the screws and we were left wanting a wee bit as we could only manage 130 odd in reply. Just beaten by a very good and experienced side lads but these experiences will be invaluable for us going forward as we strive to reach the level they have set as a club. Still a very good T20 season as we won every game bar the Final when it mattered. Let’s keep the season on track guys as we aim for the semis of the 50 over comp.

No other games were possible on the weekend due to the rain.

This week’s games:

HNCC Reynard Premiers  vs Taradale at Anderson Park on Saturday from 11.00pm

HNCC Reynard Division 2 vs  Cornwall at Cornwall Park on Saturday from 1.00pm

HNCC Parker Earthmover 3rds vs NBHS 3rds at Frimley Park on Saturday from 1.30pm.

In other news great to see young Joey Field named in the NZ Emerging players team for a couple of games this week as he continues to impress at a higher level. The clubrooms is undergoing some renovations as we build towards the rugby season so won’t be open this week. All the best to the Hawkes Bay team as they take on Nelson to secure the Hawke Cup with our own Bard Schmulian and Joey Field both in the side.
