Silverware

21 Jan 2019

Hi All,

The first silverware is in the cabinet for the season as the HNCC Reynard Premiers won the 55 over competition on Saturday after beating Taradale. Winning the toss and bowling after the rain all week was a good decision as Taradale struggled to build a total and Pete Marffy (5 – 19) for the second week in a row was the main destroyer before Brad Schmulian (3 – 11) wrapped up the tail to have them all out for 59! We were in serious trouble at 32 – 7 and looked like repeating last years story of losing in the final game to give away the spoils before Jono Whitely (23no) and Robert Fridd (12no) produced the partnership of the match to close out the game without the loss of any further wickets!! Congratulations to Brad Clark and the whole squad on a great achievement as that’s what makes all the training worthwhile, winning competitions. It also puts us in good stead to achieve the main goal of the overall championship so let’s keep working hard.

The HNCC Reynard Seniors also had a victory on Saturday to keep their push for the finals alive. Lindisfarne batted first on the artificial track and Guy Reeves (5 – 13) was in fine form as he claimed most of the top order with support from Ben Taylor (2 – 12) as they were bundled out for 96. Captain Alex Cotter (44no) made short work of the chase as we lost only 4 wickets in reply. Good win guys against a team ahead of us so still a real chance of a finals berth.

This week sees the return of T20 cricket to Anderson Park on Friday night as the HNCC Reynard Premiers take on NOBM from 5pm. Come on down for some great entertainment with beers and a BBQ from 4.30pm on what should be a great night.

Other games this weekend are:

HNCC Reynard Seniors vs Sher E Punjab Sports at Anderson Park on Saturday from 12.45pm

HNCC Reynard Div. 2 vs Cornwall at Flaxmere Park on Saturday from 1.00pm.

Not much cricket camp news this week due to the  weather wreaking havoc so the Scott Clinic Year 9/10 team only managed one game where they won comfortably with promising Juniors Sam Cassidy (58) and Logan Ryniker Doull (41) the standouts with the bat. An amazing sequence of scores from HNCC Premier player Sam Ferguson at the national U -17 tournament as he lit up the latest games with scores of 200no and 145 from consecutive 50 over games for CD!! A phenomenal achievement that Robin and his family will be very proud of as is the whole club. Awesome stuff Sam and he has had great support from our regular Premier player Will Clark who has also starred with bat and ball as they remain unbeaten. Another player excelling at rep duty was Harry Young who made a century for the Hawkes Bay Mavericks team on Sunday. Just fantastic to see young players stepping up a level and showing what they are capable of and is great for the club.
