Havelock North 2nd XI vs Cornwall Islanders Report

4 Nov 2018

The HNCC 2nd Division side clocked up their first win of the season against the Cornwall Islanders at Cornwall Park. Winning the toss and bowling, the bowlers found the conditions tricky with a wet ball and slippery foot holes. Once again too many wides and dropped catches allowed ‘The Islanders’ to get to 124 for 5 after 20 overs and HNCC were looking down the barrel of a 200 run chase. A much more focussed approach with wickets from Rishabh Sharma (2-27) Dan Fridd (2 for 27) and Josh Lawson (3 for 21) enabled HNCC to shut down the Islanders innings for 168 in only 28.2 overs.

Unlike the previous week HNCC got off to an excellent start with the first wicket falling at 69 runs. Liam Reeves scored his first fifty (51) for Havelock and was well supported by James Rainger (23). The middle order kept chipping in with double figure scores with Fridd (15) Lawson (11) and Mason Cook (15) while Tristan Mudaly impressed once again with a more substantial and aggressive 41. Despite a few hiccups, HNCC got over the line and got to 169 runs with 3 wickets and over 7 overs to spare.
