Happy New Year to all,
Hope everyone had a relaxing break and a promising start to 2019! Yes we are back into the cricket again this Saturday as the Reynard HNCC Premiers aim to continue their good form against CHB at Anderson Park on Saturday in a 55 over clash starting at 10.30am. The clubrooms will be open so if you fancy a new year ale and a BBQ the bar will be open from 4.30pm.
Just a refresh on the last round of 2018 as the Reynard HNCC Premiers kept their lead at the top of the table by beating Napier Tech in the 55 over clash just before Xmas. After Tech decided to bat on a wicket that had been kept under covers for a few days they were soon in trouble and lost regular wickets as the bowling unit of Adam Winter, Hamish Jackson, Will Clark, Pete Marffy and Brad Schmulian all grabbed 2 wickets apiece to rout them for only 70! It wasn’t easy going for our lads either and after being 3 for 2 we recovered well with Oscar Crichton and Will Clark making an invaluable partnership of 30 runs in the context of the game before Gus Henderson (21 no) and Max Devonshire carried us through as we won by 5 wickets. Awesome first half of the season lads so let’s hope we can push on from here!!
The Reynard HNCC Seniors had a narrow loss by 1 wicket as our last seasons coach Dave Castle proved the difference for HBHS. Batting first Chris Hicks (40) top scored again and with support from Ben Taylor (31) we managed to post a competitive 140 on a difficult wicket. We had them in real trouble at 90 for 8 but a partnership of 44 between Dave and our Havelock North Junior Jack Parker enabled HBHS to sneak home in what was a fitting end to our CD U-19 and Premier player Joey Fields last game for the school. Veteran Sam Prescott (3 – 19), Sufi Islam (2 – 11) and young Tim Ferguson (3 – 34) were the pick of our bowlers but it was great to see the next wave of Havelock players on show as our Junior players Harvey Ives, Jack Parker and Joey Field were all heavily involved for HBHS.
The cricket camps have started and our youngest team the Scott Clinic Year 5 villagers had a great tournament winning 3 of the 4 games. Notable performances from many players including Will Symes (3 – 7), Harry Bain (4 -2), P Ross (3 – 2) amongst the wickets while Matt Vial (37 ret) and Ollie Stafford (30 ret) were in the runs. Well done to all players and I hope they enjoyed their first of many camps. More camp news next week.
